‘Axe Murderer’ Silva vs. Sonnen bout looms

When “The Axe Murderer,” Wanderlei Silva gets really agitated, nobody wants to be near him. Except maybe for somebody who have the guts to trash talk anybody to their faces, like Chael Sonnen.

An incident happened during the filming of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Ultimate fighter 3 in Brazil.

This television reality show recruits new breed of fighters who will undergo intense physical training under the guidance of a Pro mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. There will be two teams, and each team will live in a camp with their assigned coach-celebrity MMA Champions. The training and lifestyle of the new recruits will be filmed, including their interactions and behavior towards each other. On the episode of The Ultimate Fighter 3 Brazil, the assigned coaches are Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen.

Putting all fighters with high levels of testosterone in one room is like filling a tank with gasoline. A slight spark will cause an explosion. Chael Sonnen, known for his entertaining and hilarious trash talks might have something to do with how the scuffle began. Sonnen has been very vocal about his opinion on Brazilian fighters. He was quoted by ESPN’s Ben Blackmore when he said to Silva: “I will take a picture of you [Wanderlei Silva] in bed with the Nogueira brothers working on your jiu-jitsu.”

UFC President Dana White reported to MMA Weekly News that “Wanderlei and Chael fought…” and it was physical.

There is a strong rule in The Ultimate Fighter that whoever fights outside their scheduled bouts will be sent home.

During the physical confrontation between the two coaches, an unknown recruit from the Silva camp came in and sucker punched Chael.

UFC has scheduled a fight for Wanderlei Silva and Chael Sonnen but it shall happen only after the conclusion of Ultimate Fighter 3 Brazil. To date, Wanderlei’s MMA pro record as a fighter is 35 wins and 12 losses, while Sonnen is 28 wins and 14 losses. However, in the year 2013, Chael fought more times, and his conditioning level is still at its peak, while Silva fought once but nobody doubts his conditioning level as a fighter. He seems to be always ready.

Sonnen is not all talk, and Silva is not always scary. When they finally meet in the Octagon, expect the whole arena to be in flames.
