In the wake of the 7.2-magnitude earthquake and the super typhoon that ravaged and affected millions of Filipinos in the Visayas, the Ayala Malls group of companies pledged to make its Christmas celebrations and offerings more meaningful.
“Christmas brings happiness, but this year, it also brings sadness. It is a time for helping earthquake and typhoon victims who badly need aid,” announced Ayala Chairman Emeritus Jaime Zobel de Ayala at the recent launch of Ayala Malls Christmas dubbed “The Joy of Sharing.”
In November, two events for the benefit of the earthquake and typhoon victims kicked of the Ayala Malls festivities.
One is the Stars of Joy concert series showcasing a breathtaking display of music and dance. Directed by Audie Gemora, the presentation featured the talents of Piolo Pascual, Martin Nievera, Kuh Ledesma, Joanna Ampil, and the Steps Dancers. It also encouraged mall goers to come together as a community and show support for the Typhoon Yolanda victims through donation boxes placed in all Ayala Malls concierge.
The Stars of Joy concludes with two more concerts happening today at Market Market! Activity Center, and on December 15 at Centrio Mall in Cagayan De Oro.
Then there was also the “Tugon sa Bohol” campaign, an initiative for the restoration of the damaged churches in Bohol due to the recent earthquake. The activities include Songs of Hope, a benefit concert by the award-winning Loboc Children’s Choir, and KISAME, an exhibition of photographs of ceiling paintings of Bohol’s colonial churches.
Pepe’s Secret Christmas, an enchanting Christmas celebration of the Filipino seen through the eyes of a young man and a rowdy assortment of talking and dancing animals, also returns in Ayala Malls this year.
First shown in 2012, the musical is headed by Sofia Zobel-Elizalde, director of Steps Dance Studio and founder of Steps Dance Project, and through the direction and choreography of James Laforteza
Pepe’s Secret Christmas toured nationwide from Subic, to Cagayan de Oro, to Davao. Its
last stop is at Marquee Mall, Pampanga, on December 14.
Finally, as highlight of the 2013 Christmas, Ayala Malls present the “The Tunnel of Joy,” a panoramic visual wonder by Zobel de Ayala himself, a photographer and artist. Walk through “The Tunnel of Joy” leading to Greenbelt Mall in Makati City, and see the magic and joy of Christmas.
