The Philippine Azkals are set to clash with Maldives in a friendly match at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium today ahead of the resumption of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers this month.
The Azkals with a FIFA ranking of 125th will battle the Maldivians as part of their preparation for their match against the formidable Uzbekistan team ranked 76th by FIFA, for the Asian qualifiers of the world football championship on September 8.
Consequently, the Red Snappers of Maldives are also holding a camp of their own in the Philippines before they fly to China for the qualifiers. The Maldivian booters faced local club Stallion FC for a friendly on August 29 that ended in a draw.
The Azkals have started their World Cup campaign on a high note with two consecutive wins against Bahrain and Yemen while Maldives is yet to post a win in their group.
