The Adamson University Baby Falcons eye to sustain their winning streak as they face the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School Junior Archers in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines Season 79 juniors’ basketball tournament on Saturday at The Arena in San Juan City.
The Baby Falcons notched their fourth consecutive win at the expense of the Ateneo de Manila High School Blue Eaglets on Tuesday, 77-65.
“We have to focus on our inconsistencies. Despite winning the game, we still have several inconsistencies inside the court. We’ll have to focus on that,” said Adamson head coach Goldwin Monteverde.
Adamson banked on its 42 inside points against Ateneo’s 26. But the Blue Eaglets capitalized on their perimeter shooting, tallying 25 markers against the Baby Falcons’ 15.
“The inside points is one of our advantages so we really took advantage of that. Maybe, those perimeter points will go down to what I’ve said, our being inconsistent defensively,” Monteverde added.
Florencio Serrano top scored Adamson with 23 points, while Gerry Austin Abadiano and Reygan Santos combined for 25 markers. Samjosef Belangel and Dave Ildefonso led Ateneo with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
“There were basics that they’ve had to do but failed to execute. So rather than focus on the 4-0, we’ll focus on doing and improving things,” Monteverde said.
Meanwhile, the National University (NU) Bullpups trounced the La Salle Junior Archers, 80-55.
The Bullpups took advantage of La Salle’s 20 turnovers to score 18 markers. They also limited the Junior Archers to 18 baskets out of 60 attempts.
Winderlich Coyoca led NU with 14 points, followed by Karl Peñano with 13 markers. John Clemente and Rhayyan Amsali added 11 and 10 more points, respectively. Nathaniel Cosejo owned the lone bright spot for La Salle with 10 markers.
The Adamson Baby Falcons landed at the top spot with a 4-0 win-loss card, while the La Salle Junior Archers settled with a 1-3 record.
The Bullpups will battle the University of Santo Tomas Tiger Cubs at 9 a.m., while the Far Eastern University Baby Tamaraws will go against the University of the Philippines Integrated School Junior Maroons at 11 a.m.
After the Adamson-La Salle clash, the Ateneo Blue Eaglets will try to barge into the winning column against the University of the East Junior Warriors at 3 p.m.
