BACOLOD CITY: The National Solid Waste Management Commission (NSWMC) has approved the 10-year SWM Plan of Bacolod for the period 2015-2024.
Mayor Monico Puentevella of Bacolod City received a letter from NSWMC officer-in-charge Executive Director Eligio Ildefonso stating that the approval will enable Bacolod as a local government unit to implement “efficient management of solid wastes” within its jurisdiction.
The plan will be approved annually by the City SWM Council and it shall provide the NSWMC with updates on its implementation.
Puentevella acknowledged the efforts of Executive Assistant on Solid Waste Management Ma. Fe Tresfuentes and the City SWM Management Council following his announcement of the plan’s approval on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Puentevella said the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) informed him that the city is not ineligible for the sub-grant from the World Bank because of the controversy over the ownership of the area used by the city as an open dumpsite in Barangay Felisa.
