‘Bad luck’ hounds NAIA 1

‘Bad luck’ seems to continue to haunt the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). On Tuesday, a glass panel near Boarding Gate 10 of NAIA terminal 1 suddenly shattered. A separate incident happened on Wednesday morning at the Duty Free Shop perfume section of NAIA-1 departure area, where a gypsum board about a meter in size on ceiling collapsed, leaving a big hole. Renz Calderon of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) operations division said that vibrations from the two planes from gates 9 and 11 may have caused the shattering of the glass partition. MIAA spokesman David de Castro said operations at the boarding gates were not disturbed as the area where the glass panel broke have already been cordoned off. NAIA Terminal 1 manager Dante Basanta immediately ordered safety personnel to place caution markings to prevent passengers from getting near the shattered glass panel. He also ordered the immediate replacement of the glass partition.

It is probably safer to fight the Abu Sayyaf in Basilan than to be at the Pride and Joy of the Philippines — The NAIA.

  2. Typical shoddy (walang kwenta) and poor quality workmanship. Airport yan ha…aircraft taking off and landing all the time. Tapos yun ang sinisi sa pagkabasag ng glass panel!! Aba, di ba dapat, kaya ng mga glass panels ang vibrations dahil sa aircraft noise! Give me a break, please.
