BAGUIO CITY: City councilor Roberto Ortega filed a resolution calling for strict monitoring of tobacco sales in barangays here. The proposal wants barangay officials to supervise and monitor convenience stores and ambulant vendors selling cigarettes and other tobacco products within 100 meters from schools and to ensure that a signage prohibiting the sale and distribution of tobacco products to persons below 18 years old is displayed. The proposed resolution is pursuant to city resolution no. 53 that supports Republic Act 9211 or the Tobacco Regulation Act of 2003 which states that it is the policy of the State to protect the public from hazardous products and promote right to health and instill health consciousness among them.
