Baguio City dominated the 2016 Batang Pinoy wushu competitions as it bagged 12 gold medals on Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Benguet native Krystal Yvonne Malecdan led the charge of Baguio after topping the girls’ sanda 60kg. division. She defeated Patricia Ann Capudoy of Quezon City in the finals.
Jonalyn Cantong of Calbayog City settled for bronze.
“We are really happy since most of us received a medal,” said Malecdan
Also winning gold medals in their respective events were Vannah Ibag (Group A girls’ 56kg), Aubrey Bugaayon (B girls’ 56kg), Janlo Mark Sanguao (boys’ 52kg), Gideon Padua (boys’ 56kg) and Rodel Degay (boys’ 60kg).
In taolu, 16-year old Joel Casem scored 9.1 points to claim the top honors in the boys’ chang quan. Johnzenth Gajo of Quezon City earned the silver (9.02) while Walros Joseph Franco of Davao City took the bronze (8.62)
Casem struck another gold in shu while other Baguio bets who ruled their events were Faith Liana Andaya (girls’ chang quan), Aleca Dumseng (girls’ san lu quan), Ghiel Figueras (girls’ nan dao), and Aleca Breana Dumseng (girls’ basic gian shu).
Iloilo City placed second with seven golds followed by Quezon City with five golds and Davao with four golds.
Over at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila, Divina Sembrano of Manila clinched four golds in the individual all-around, rope, hoop and clubs categories of junior finals.
In the pre-junior finals, Negros Occidental’s Kiana Marie Alagaban earned the gold in the rope event with nine points followed by Manila’s Kristal Maguidato (8.650) and Kyla Nicole Lopez (8.4).
Winners in team events are GAP Manila and City of Talisay Cebu.
