Baguio City to host CAR regional ecology center BAGUIO CITY: A linkage hub on solid waste management called the Regional Ecology Center (REC) for the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) is being established at the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Cordillera (EMB-DENR-CAR) office here.
A memorandum of agreement to be signed during the center’s launching next month is seen to firm up government partnership with the various sectors.
The ecology center is expected to provide technical expertise, information, training and networking services in the implementation of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act.
The center will facilitate training and education in solid waste management. It will also help develop a recycling market and act as the clearinghouse for clean production or clean technologies on solid waste.
It will also provide or facilitate expert assistance in pilot modeling of solid waste management facilities.
EMB-DENR-CAR Director Oscar Cabanayan stressed the need for the REC and said “we will be accountable with our participation to the center.”
Aside from MOA signing among partners from the government, academe and the private sector, best practices on solid wastes management will also be showcased during the REC launch.
