BAGUIO CITY: The city government of Baguio, in coordination with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Baguio Regreening Movement (BRM), the Philippine Information Agency and Baguio media commemorated the 24th anniversary of the July 16, 1990 killer earthquake by offering prayers and ritual, tree-planting and a media forum at the Busol watershed here. Mayor Mauricio Domogan reminded the public that there is no substitute for being prepared in any calamity—individually and collectively, as calamity strikes without prior notice. Domogan urged the public to learn from the lessons of past disasters such as the 1990 earthquake as he urged people not to construct houses in danger zones and to continuously monitor disaster risks in their local communities such as possible landslides and flash floods, as well as in preparing basic food supply including drinking water especially during the rainy or typhoon season.
