Bakers want flour price cut by P100

FILIPINO bakers are one with the Department of Trade and Industry in demanding that millers slash the prices of flour by P100 to P200 per bag.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, Philippine Baking (Philbaking) president Nestor Constancia said their members can only reduce the price of loaf bread and pan de sal if flour prices go down by more than P100/sack.

Earlier, the DTI threatened to file charges against millers and bakers for refusing to bring down flour prices.

Constancia said they are willing to bring down bread prices if the price of flour is cut.

According to Philbaking, flour prices in other ASEAN countries are lower than in the Philippines.

In Malaysia and Singapore, flour prices are 40 percent lower while in Vietnam, it is 37-38 percent cheaper. The group said the price of flour in Thailand is 29-30 percent lower.
