    The 9th Balikatan Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) tournament dubbed Storm Surge organized by veteran fighter and trainer Henry Yap Kobayashi, will unfold on Saturday 5 p.m. at the Hybrid Yaw-Yan Mixed Martial Arts Training Center, 5th floor Karen Building no. 9 Annapolis Street, Cubao, Quezon City.

    Ten teams namely Hybrid Yaw-Yan Cubao, Philippine National Police Boxing Gym-Camp Crame, Empire Boxing Gym Makati, Herdoza Fitness Gym Baliwag, Bulacan, PAMAA-Manila, Yaw-Yan Fervilleon San Pablo, Laguna, Titan Fitness Gym Antipolo City, Underground MMA Las Pinas City, GARA MMA Marikina City and Ju-Muay MMA Quezon City are joining the tournament.

    Besides trophies, medals and certificates, the winners will receive two two-year Educational Scholarship voucher and a chance to fight in the Philippine Amateur Mixed Martial Arts League slated on December 13, 2014 at Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo City.

    The main event of the evening is the fight between Roel Rio of Yaw-Yan Fervilleon and Jomar Pal-Iwen of PNP Boxing Gym. The co-main event features Hybrid Yaw-Yan’s finest fighter John Joseph Tabang against the head coach of Philippine Aero Martial Arts Association Edison Cashela.

    The other featured matches are: Ralph Anonuevo vs. Mhiko Grijalde, Jay Gundio vs. Jasmine Rose Buan, John Michael Resuello vs. Pamelo Tabanao, Neil Benjamin Kho vs. Jean Simon Kyle Flores, Duane Lucas Pascua vs. Michael Dulnuan, Gerald Nacanan vs. Ronald San Juan, Jefferson Grulla vs. Jovanie Bualan, Orly Nabelgas vs. Robin Bustamante and Bernardo Ferreras vs. Raymundo Ortega.

    International MMA referee Joey Lepiten and Joamar Parungao will be the third man inside the ring while physician Paolo Miguel Mabanglo, Registered Nurse Charisse Limos and Maria Conception Agbisit from Philippine Orthopedic Hospital comprise the tournament’s medical team.

    The tournament’s appointed judges are: Universal Reality Combat Championship Bacolod Brawl promoter Paul Hector Torre, Marc Louie Aldovino of Lucena City and Pro-MMA judge Jaime Alexis Sin.

    Third District of Quezon City Councilor Hon. Gian Sotto, M-Magazine publisher Dennis Dungao and The Manila Times sports editor Perry Gil Mallari will be the event’s distinguished guests.
