Gab Banal powered Flying V to a 107-96 victory over Wangs Basketball in the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) D-League Foundation Cup on Tuesday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Banal netted 29 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, as the Thunder remained unbeaten after three games.
Jeron Teng added 20 points on 7-of-20 shooting to go along with his four rebounds and six assists for the newcomer Flying V.
Aris Dionisio chipped in 14 points while Thomas Torres had 12 markers, four boards, and three assists also for the Thunder.
“Banal was consistent in the game. He sparked the team in the second half which give us a big lift,” said Flying V coach Eric Altamirano.
The Thunder overcame a slot start and needed a 10-0 run in the third frame to end the period with an 86-80 advantage.
Banal, Dionisio and Torres stretched the lead to 13 points, 105-92, with 78 seconds remaining and the Couriers never had a series fightback since then.
Robbie Herndon fired up 24 points, Chris De Chavez got 13 markers, while John Tayongtong had 12 points for the Couriers, who dropped to 1-2.
