FORMER featherweight mixed martial arts champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario has been given a chance to regain his lost title when the One Fighting Championship (FC) returns to Manila on December 6 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Banario, 23, who holds eight wins against two losses, will have a rematch against reigning One FC featherweight champion Koji Oishi of Japan (24-9-10 win-loss-draw slate) in the main event of the fight card entitled “Moment of Truth.”
“I’m so very happy and 100 percent ready to fight him (Koji) again and regain what I lost,” said Banario after the press conference organized by One FC chief executive officer Victor Cui at the lobby of Midas Hotel in Pasay City.
Banario said he is all set to avenge his devastating second-round knockout loss against Oish last May at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“I was in a hurry to beat him after I caught him in the first round with my punches. My only mistake was I became so aggressive in the second round and didn’t see his counter-punch that knocked me off,” said Banario. “Now I learned how to make adjustments from those mistakes.”
Team Lakay fighter lightweight Eduard “The Landslide” Folayang (12-4 card) and flyweight Geje Eustaquio still await for their respective opponents.
“We hired former European wrestling champion Ali Heydarabadi from Iran to train us in wrestling,” said Folayang. “It’s time for us to redeem ourselves.”
Also seeing action in the women’s division is mixed martial artist Jujeath Nagaowa, a former professional boxer with 12 victories.
