FORMER featherweight champion Honorio “The Rock” Banario is bracing for a big comeback in One Fighting Championship (FC) after losing via knockout to Japanese Koji Oishi on May 30 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Banario, 23, who holds an 8-2 win-loss slate, said he has already started his conditioning work in Baguio and is also honing his counter-attacking skills.
“That’s what happened I was knocked down because I never saw it coming,” Banario told The Manila Times in a phone interview. “Right now, I’m starting to train hard and improve my defense and all attributes in mixed martial arts.”
Banario, a member of Team Lakay’s wushu fighters stable said that it doesn’t matter whether it’s a title shot or not, “So far, there is no scheduled fight yet for me this year in One FC. All I’m doing is training while waiting.”
“Although I come from a loss, it doesn’t mean I’m demoralized. I just have to work hard to get back on top and that’s not impossible to do,” said Banario, who dethroned fellow Filipino Eric Kelly in 2012 to win the featherweight title.
