AN Abu Sayyaf (ASG) rebel, involved in the kidnapping of American Jeffrey Schilling more than a decade ago, was killed in an encounter with elite police commandos early dawn on Monday in a remote village in Sulu province, police reports said.

Initial reports reaching the Philippine National Operations Center in Camp Crame identified the slain ASG bandit as Jarrin Hajan alias "Abu" and "Fraser". Reports said Hajan was killed in an encounter after combined elements of PNP SAF 52nd Special Action Coy and Sulu Provincial Police Office stormed his house at Barangay Luwas, Parang town, Sulu at about 1:10 a.m. on Monday.
