THE Alliance of Bangsamoro Organizations for Peace and Development (Abopad) Inc. on Saturday endorsed Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte for president and Senator Allan Peter Cayetano for vice president.
“The Abopad has decided to give Mayor Duterte its full support because of his platform that addresses the core problems of the Bangsamoro people and country in general,” Sultan Muhammad Datucali, the group’s chairman, said in a statement.
“Mayor Duterte has deep understanding and political ramification of the Bangsamoro People which no other presidential candidates share it. In terms of mechanism on how to address Bangsamoro cause, Mayor Duterte call for federalism is the most appropriate way learning from the failure of the passage of Bangsamoro Basic Law under Aquino administration,” Datucali added.
The group also endorsed Cayetano despite his criticisms of the proposed Bangsamoro law and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).
Kagawad Omar Kayagkag, the group’s director of the political unit, believed that Cayetano will become a Bangsamoro champion under Duterte.
The group also endorsed Ating Guro party-list.
