BARAKO Bull leaned on five triples in the fourth period to escape with a 105-99 win over Meralco Bolts on Sunday and remained as the only unbeaten team in the 40th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.

Rookie Jake Pascual likewise contributed to the Energy Cola’s fourth straight win when he scored back-to-back baskets in the last 1:36 of the game that held back Meralco’s final surge.

With the victory, the Energy Cola remained on top with 4-0 slate while Meralco dropped to a tie from seventh to eighth with Ginebra at 2-3 card.

Yeo connected two triples, while RR Garcia fired also two and one from JC Intal in the pivotal quarter that enabled them to complete a great come back after being thrilled by 19 points in the opening canto.


The 6’0” guard Yeo, a third overall pick by Coca-Cola in 2006, finished with 28 points and six assists. He was five-of-13 in the three-point zone and seven-of-seven in the free throw lane.

The 6’5” import Andre Emmett of Meralco, who averaged 38 points and 12.5 rebounds a game, sizzled with 12 points of his own to establish a big 19-point lead for the Energy Cola, 31-12. But the 7’2 import Liam McMorrow, Joseph Yeo and Chico Lanete conspired a 23-19 run in the next frame to reduce the gap, 41-52, at the half.

McMorrow settled with 19 points and 23 rebounds for Barako Bull, while Garcia scored 14, and 12 each from Jake Pascual and Justin Chua.

Emmett topscored for Meralco with 32 points and seven rebounds, Cliff Hodge had 17 and nine apiece from Gary David and Mike Cortez.
