Brgy. Captain Ronaldo Coner of Punta Tarawal, Calabangga, Camarines Sur will share the spotlight with Vice President-elect Leni Robredo who will take her oath of office today.
Coner, who will administer Robredo’s Oath of Office, is hopeful that his barangay will see progress under her term.
Pero natuwa rin (This is like a dream. I did not expect it. At first, I was nervous, because I will stand before both the local and international media. I was shocked, but I eventually felt happy),” he told reporters.
Coner is pinning his hopes on Robredo, who served as Camarines Sur lawmaker for three years.
I wish that Maam Leni won’t let us down…that she will really look after the welfare of the poor),” Coner, who is of the same age as Robredo at 51, said.
Brgy. Punta Tarawal, Camarines Sur is home to 408 people. The main source of income is fishing.
Walang asenso. Kaya sana magkaroon ng TESDA [training], ‘yung welding, pagmemekaniko… (I wish for a sustainable job in our place, because it is hard to depend on the sea. We won’t have progress I think there should be TESDA training for us, like welding…being a mechanic),” Coner said, referring to the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority.
Also in Coner’s wishlist is a farm-to-market road that connects to his barangay.
With a farm-to-market road, the fisherfolks will have an easier time transporting their goods and selling them in the market),” he explained.
