Barbosa bags runner-up plum in Washington Chess Congress


Grandmaster (GM) Oliver Barbosa bagged the runner-up trophy in the premier section of the 2014 Washington Chess Congress held in Washington D.C., US. Barbosa was actually in a three-way tie on top along with Russian GMs Gata Kamsky and Sergey Erenburg with the same 5.5-point output. But Kamsky has superior tie break points to win the tournament while Barbosa and Erenburg settled for second and third, respectively. Kamsky pocketed the $1,746 cash prize, and Barbosa and Erenburg got identical $1,688 consolation purse.
