NATIONAL players Sarah Joy Barredo and Ros Leenard Pedrosa beat their separate foes in the opening day of the Sun Cellular-Ming Ramos National Junior Badminton national finals on Saturday at the SM North Edsa Annex, Quezon City.
Luzon representative Barredo, 17, routed Janine Peligrino of Mindanao 21-13, 21-13, in the girls’ Under-19 while Pedrosa also of Luzon beat Emilio Mangubat of Visayas 21-15, 16-21, 21-13, in boys’ U-19 to advance into the second round of the two-day tournament.
Another Luzon bet Jewel Angelo Albo, 10, crushed Lyrden Laborte of Visayas 21-15, 21-23, 21-11, in the boys’ U-13 singles, while Anthea Marie Gonzales also of Luzon beat Marichelle Bejasa of Visayas 8-21, 21-15, 21-11, in the girls’ U-13 class.
Carl Bernard Bejasa of Visayas defeated Arthur Samuel Salvado of Mindanao 21-12, 18-21, 21-17, in the boys’ U-15 singles while Chanelle Lunod of Luzon thumped Rose Tingson of Visayas 21-11, 20-22, 21-13, in the girls’ U-17 singles.
Daniel Pantanosas of Mindanao whipped Fides Joven Bagasbas of Visayas 12-21, 25-23, 21-19 in the boys’ U-17 singles category.
