AN EIGHT-year old boy was killed while four of his siblings were wounded at dawn on Sunday after an improvised explosive device (IED), allegedly lobbed by their neighbor, went off inside their house in a suburban village in Isabela City in Basilan.
Basilan Police Chief, Supt. Oscar Nantes identified the boy as Bobby Jimmy, while wounded were his siblings – Carisma, 3; Juita, 1; Tagay, 4 and Jamar, 15.
The victims reportedly belong to a Yakan tribe in the island of Malamawi.
Investigation showed that an unidentified man lobbed the improvised explosive device in the house and escaped with another man who acted as lookout.
Nantes reported that based on initial investigation the Jimmy patriarch had a misunderstanding with the two suspects.
Family feud or clan war is not uncommon in the provinces of Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Tawi-Tawi and Sulu. Most of the feuds were traced to land conflict and politics.
