At least 18,000 people were displaced by tropical depression Basyang, a Palace official said Saturday.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte disclosed that the 18,518 persons who were displaced are housed in 74 evacuation centers from Regions 7, 8 and Caraga.
“The President has tasked the NDRRMC and the local government units to extend all the help that they are capable of to the evacuees and others who will be affected by Basyang. The concerned agencies have been on blue alert since January 30,” Valte told Radyo ng Bayan.
Likewise, the Aquino administration earmarked P104.30 million worth of emergency relief resources, as well as 48,044 food packs, for those affected by Basyang
“The DSWD is on standby and is ready to provide additional food and non-food items if the supply of local government units needs to be augmented. These are for Regions 5 to 10,” Valte pointed out, referring to Department of Social Welfare and Development.
“The DSWD Development Teams and Quick Response Teams in those Regions are also on alert to ensure that our stock piles of relief goods are prepositioned and could be easily dispensed to LGUs if need be,” Valte said.
