Veteran cue masters Filipino Efren “Bata” Reyes and American Earl Strickland will be colliding anew in the Battle of the Legends slated on January 14 to 16 at the Steinway Billiards in Astoria, New York.
The three-day affair is a combination of 8-Ball, 9-Ball and 10-Ball event. The 8-Ball event will be held on Day 1 followed by the 9-Ball in Day 2 and 10-Ball in Day 3 on an alternate break, race-to-17 format.
It was in 1996 when Reyes and Strickland met in the 9-Ball, race-to-120 event dubbed as Color of Money held in Hong Kong. Reyes ended up victorious via 120-117 win to take the $100,000 top purse. The second Color of Money was held in 2001 with the Filipino Hall of Famer emerging as the winner to make it 2-0.
Tagged as “The Magician”, Reyes has already stamped his class in international scene by bagging the World 9-Ball, World 8-Ball, World Cup of Pool and World Mixed-Doubles crowns.
Strickland, for his part, was also a former world champion after winning the World Pool-Billiard 9-Ball Championships, World Pool Masters and a number of US Open titles.
