HERMOSA, Bataan: Rains have stopped and the sun shone brightly on Sunday but a big portion of the village of Almacen here remained almost knee-deep in floodwaters. Water still overflowed from the big Almacen River, inundating the barangay (village) road and some houses. Mounds of mud that residents said were lahar were left in areas that began to dry. “[It’s only now that tricycles can enter the town],” resident Rogelio Bagsic said. For the past week, floodwaters rose to more than six feet in Almacen where small boats and later kuliglig (hand tractors pulling carriers) were the means of transportation. Bong Valencia, a fisherman, said what needs to be done is dredge the river to put an end to pestering floods in their village. He added water from the mountains bring down lahar to the river and the barangay.
