Veteran Alex Cabagnot and rookie Stanley Pringle joined forces down the stretch to guide GlobalPort to a 91-81 win over Barako Bull on Sunday for its first victory in the 40th Philippine Basketball Association Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
Cabagnot notched 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds while Pringle added 19 points and nine boards to give GlobalPort head coach Pido Jarencio his first win after two games this season amidst of coaching changes rumors.
“The players really wanted to win since our first game but we lost. Today, the players followed the game plan without any pressure and it’s good that we won,” said Jarencio, who did not comment to certain report that former AIR21 coach Franz Pumaren will replace him.
“We just have to play and win.”
Big men Mark Isip and veteran center Yancy De Ocampo scattered 12 points each while gunner Terrence Romeo contributed only nine points for the Batang Pier, who did not relinquish their lead since the start of the game.
Dennis Miranda and former GlobalPort RR Garcia scored 16 points and 12 points, respectively, for the Energy Cola, who now dropped to 0-2.
