Batang Pier soundly dominated Blackwater Elite 100-76 to secure their second straight win in the 40th Philippine Basketball Association Governor’s Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday.
Terrence Romeo and Stanley Pringle, who just recovered from injury provided awesome firepower while 7’0 Patrick O’Bryant and 6’3 Omar Krayem of Palestine upped the intensity as Batang Pier battered the Elites, which remain winless in two outings.
The game was close, 19-13, only during the opening period. The 5’11 guard Romeo, a fifth overall pick by Globalport in 2013, notched seven points in the first quarter and added six more points in the second quarter allowing his team a 49-32 lead at the half.
Globalport, which joined the league in 2012 after taking over the franchise of Powerade, had a field day, notching a total of 12 triples to lead by as much as 30 points, 79-49, in the third quarter.
From there, it was a lopsided battle leading to Batang Pier’s win.
The former Far Eastern University Tamaraw Romeo finished with 20 points, which was a fitting follow up to his 27 points output in their 92-73 win against Meralco on Tuesday. Pringle scored 18 points plus four assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, the San Miguel Beermen hope to bounce back when they face Meralco Bolts at 3 p.m. while Purefoods Star Hotshots battle NLEX Road Warriors at 5:15 p.m. today in a double-header also at the Big Dome.
