BATANGAS: Hundreds of relatives, friends and supporters of slain former Mataas Na Kahoy Mayor Arnulfo Rivera joined in his funeral on Sunday afternoon.
Clad in white shirts with prints asking for justice, the mourners braved the heat of the sun to send their former mayor to his resting place in Sanctuario De La Paz Cemetery past 12 noon.
A simple prayer ceremony was first held at the Immaculate Conception Parish Church before his interment.
Rivera, 57 year-old, had just attended a Sunday mass in their chapel last June 8 in Barangay Calingatan and was walking home when the gunman followed and shot him twice in the head around 10:00 a.m.
Witnesses said the gunman escaped onboard a waiting motorcycle and fled towards an unknown direction.
Rivera was rushed to Mary MediatrixHospital in Lipa City for treatment but later died around 12:15 pm.
Meanwhile, Task Force-Rivera handling the case of the killing remains clueless regarding possible motives and suspects.
Senior Supt. Raul Tacaca, head of the Task Force, said they have yet to gather other important information from the relatives of the victims after the interment.
Rivera served was Mataas na Kahoy mayor from 1998 to 2001.
