PARTY list representatives on Tuesday have banded together to form the Party-list Coalition Foundation (PCF) in an attempt to strengthen their influence in Congress.
Its president, Nicanor “Nikki” Briones of the Agricultural Sector Alliance of the Philippines , said they formed the organization to ensure that advocacies of party-list groups would be prioritized in Congress.
With the newly formed bloc, Briones is confident that party-list congressmen will now have a chance to exercise their right to hold positions in the lower House.
“As stated in the Constitution, we are entitled to one deputy speaker, 2 memberships in the Committee on Appointments and 12 chairmanships in all committees,” he said.
He added that, the coalition is aligned with the majority bloc in Congress and vows to support President Benigno Aquino (3rd’s] job generation, livelihood and poverty alleviation reforms.
The PCF is the third biggest political bloc in Congress. Besides Briones, Rep. Catalina Leonen Pizarro of ABS Party-list and Rep. Irwin Tieng of Buhay party-list were elected as the organization’s secretary general and treasurer, respectively.
