• Batangas targets share of lead vs CEU

Team Batangas tries to grab a share of the top spot as it battles Centro Escolar University (CEU) in the 2017 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) D-League Foundation Cup on Thursday at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

The Batangueños hope to join league-leader Flying V at the top with a win against the winless Scorpions in their 2 p.m. encounter.

“I always tell my players that I want to win and I want them to be part of that success. I hope our team will remain in the upper echelon of the standing,” said Batangas coach Eric Gonzales, whose team is coming off an 81-79 win against Wangs Basketball.

Gonzales will bank on the services of Joseph Sedurifa, Cedric de Joya and Jessie Saitanan while CEU tries to end a two-game slide and will rely on Rod Ebondo, Aaron Jeruta and JK Casino.

In the first game, Cignal HD coach Boyet Fernandez braces for a tough match against the ‘veteran’ Gamboa Coffee Mix at 2 p.m as the Hawkeyes try to arrest a two-game slide.

“Some of them got into the PBA already. I know that we are up for a big challenge and we’re ready,” said Fernandez.

Raymar Jose, Davon Potts, and Pamboy Raymundo will lead the charge for Cignal, which totes a 3-2 win-loss card, while the Coffee Mixers of playing-coach Leo Avenido try to bounce back from a 105-119 loss to the Thunder.
