• Batangas village chief shot dead


    BATANGAS: A 62-year old barangay captain was shot dead by a still unidentified gunman in Lipa City Wednesday morning.

    Insp. Hazel Luma-Ang, Lipa City police public information officer, identified the victim as Onofre Maloles, a resident and chairman of Barangay Sta. Teresita in Sto. Tomas town.

    According to report, Maloles was buying  animal feeds in a store along Gen. Luna Avenue in Barangay Sabang when a gunman approached him from behind and shot him with a caliber .45 pistol around 7:20 a.m.

    Maloles died on the spot after sustaining bullet wounds on his head and body.

    Witnesses said the lone suspect, who was wearing black jacket, red helmet and short pants escaped onboard a motorcycle towards an unknown direction.

    Police immediately launched a hot pursuit operation against the suspect while probers have yet to establish the motive of the shooting incident.
