Hybrid Yaw-Yan standout Jerwheel Baylon defeated Boss MMA’s Ricardo Martinez in the main event of the Balikatan 17 late Saturday at the Marikina Sports Center in Marikina City.
Baylon avenged their team’s previous losses resulting in a 2-2 record in Balikatan standings.
“We are happy that we already avenged our loss. It keep us motivated going to the next Balikatan,” said Baylon during the post-fight interview.
Baylon submitted Martinez via Americana one minute and 41 seconds into Round 2 of their pro-am MMA match.
Meanwhile, Jomar Pal-iwen of Omega Fitness Gym knocked out John Kenrick Tabora of SPRAWL MMA in the 1:10 mark of Round 2 of their Pro-Am match.
With his KO performance, Pal-iwen bagged his fourth Knockout of the Night Award.
Michael Dulnuan of Herdoza Fitness Gym, on the other hand, regained his winning form when he submitted Sprawl MMA fighter Duane Lucas Pascua via inverted ankle lock in the 3:10 mark of Round 1.
Dulnuan also received the Best Submission Award.
In the other matches, Franz Valentino of Elements X-Fit Gym beat Marc Gonzales of Ground and Pound Gym, James Bayucan of Hyper MMA won over Dave Servancia of USA Sikaran via guillotine choke, Jandy Magabo of Muay Thai Rizal bested Jacob Jesuitas of Deftac Antipolo via technical knock when the latter dislocated his shoulder, D’ Armory Gym’s Francis Manubay defeated Rupert Arciaga of RMA Gym, Hybrid Yaw Yan’s Dannie Gonzales trounced Jared Sollestre, Elias Evan Inocencio of Strike and Shoot subdued Japanese kickboxer Shigeki Shinoya, Marc Manat of Muay Thai Rizal overpowered Christopher San Agustin of Freestyle MMA, Joemar Bonaobra of Seigan Aikido Dojo Philippines won via unanimous decision against Jeofran Anorico, Chester Borbon of Hybrid Yaw Yan trounced Victor Renanten Canton, Adrian Subido of Hybrid Yaw Yan thrashed Rudjeven Lumacang, Jeloird Alvarez of Hyoer MMA submitted Carlo Entor, Reynold Vargas of USA Sikaran won against Gabriel Tolentino in the Teen Match event, Gerald Nacanan of Monana Warriors Iloilo scored TKO victory over Gilbert Day while Jonas Sunico of Yaw-Yan Kampilan won by default.
Michael Mendoza bagged the Best Submission plum; Subido copped the Fastest Submission award while Hybrid Yaw Yan emerged as the Best Team of the tournament.
