The state-owned Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) signed on Thursday an agreement on toll integration with Metro Pacific Tollways Corp. (MPTC) through its subsidiary Manila North Tollways Corp. (MNTC).
The integration is intended to speed up the exits along the North Luzon Expressway and the Subic-Clark Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX).
“The actual integration may even be faster because the MNTC will soon be awarded the contract for the SCTEX as well,” BCDA President and Chief Executive Officer Arnel Paciano Casanova said.
“The BCDA board formally approved the toll integration proposal on February 4, clearing all hurdles to toll integration from our end,” Casanova added.
The toll integration, which is expected to cost about P600 million, which be shouldered by the MNTC, will improve lane throughput to 800 transactions per hour from 200 transactions at present.
In an earlier report, Rodrigo Franco, president of MNTC, told reporters that the actual civil works will start immediately but completion may take seven months, more or less.
The agreement was signed a week ahead of the deadline set by Senate President Franklin Drilon.
The NLEX-SCTEX toll integration project involves the conversion of separate NLEX and SCTEX toll collection systems into a single system that should allow for more efficient toll collection and faster movement of traffic for motorists.
The integration involves the construction of interchange plazas that will also require the widening of existing entry/exit ramps.
