PRESIDENT Benigno Aquino 3rd again met with Senator Grace Poe on Wednesday and told her “to be ready,” the lawmaker disclosed on Wednesday.
But Poe said the President made no offer for her to run under the ruling Liberal Party (LP) in 2016.The senator said the meeting was held in Aquino’s office in Malacanang at around 1 p.m.
“In all fairness the President is not insisting that I should be with LP or I should run with someone from the party,” Poe said. “He just told me to be ready and he is hoping good governance will be maintained whatever happens.”
The senator said she told the president of her intention to remain an independent if ever she decides to run for a higher post next year. She said she explained to Aquino that it will not look good if she will join a party just to boost her chances, a stance which the President understood.
Aquino, Poe said, also explained to her that LP has a process in choosing a standard bearer and that such a decision does not rest with one man or a few members of the party. She said the President also told her he has a l ist of individuals whom he believes could continue the reforms of his administration.
The senator told reporters that Aquino is set to meet with Senator Francis Escudero, who is being considered to team up with Poe in 2016.
