• Beach in La Union disappearing


    CABA, La Union: Beach resort owners, residents and local government unit here are appealing for assistance from national government agencies to resolve the issue of a shoreline a barangay being slowly eaten by the sea. More than 20 houses and several resorts, among others, in the tourist-frequented Villa Navarro and El Caseron of the coastal village of Santiago Norte have been destroyed by the thinning shores because of high tide. Mayor Clyde Crispino of Caba and the municipal council have passed a resolution seeking additional funds from Malacañang to shoulder expenses for the construction of a seawall. Earlier, barangay officials headed by Chairman Antonio Fonbuena passed a separate resolution asking for assistance from the municipal and provincial government for the villagers’ relocation to higher grounds as soon as possible.
