San Beda College has officially named Andy Jao as commissioner in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 92 basketball tournament beginning on June 25 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
NCAA Management Committee chairman Jose Mari Lacson of season host San Beda has announced the appointment upon the approval of NCAA President and San Beda rector Fr. Aloysius Maranan, OSB.
“Yes, he’s the NCAA commissioner this coming season,” said Lacson.
It will be Jao’s first duty as commissioner in the country’s oldest collegiate league.
He already assumed commissionership in the Philippine Basketball League and twice in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines in 2011 and 2014.
“We have confidence in him [Jao] and we know he’ll be fair to everyone,” added Lacson.
This year, the NCAA will embrace the theme “Sports Build Character: Achieving Breakthroughs at NCAA Season 92.”
After the opening ceremonies, Jose Rizal University and Mapua Institute of Technology will be playing in the first game followed by the rematch of last year’s finals between defending champion Colegio de San Juan de Letran and San Beda.
The basketball games will be on Mondays (juniors games), Tuesdays (one juniors and two seniors), Thursdays (one juniors and two seniors) and Fridays (two juniors and two seniors).
