DESPITE a forgettable debut, 6’8 import Kevin Jones vowed to bounce back as the San Miguel Beermen take on Rain or Shine today in a lone game of the 39th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup elimination round at the Araneta Coliseum.
The Beermen, who are celebrating the 25th year of their only Grandslam win, face their Philippine Cup semifinals tormentor Rain or Shine at 8 p.m. The Beermen are looking for their third win in four matches while the Elasto Painters are carrying a 1-1 win-loss slate.
San Miguel Beer team consultant Todd Purves believes that chemistry of the team is the reason for their 99-107 setback to Talk ‘N Text on Friday.
Jones, who replaced Josh Boone, played for 40 minutes and finished with 35 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, two blocks and a steal but his effort was not enough even with the support of 6’10 center June Mar Fajardo.
“We have to work more on our chemistry. Kevin Jones played just his first game with the team and June Mar Fajardo just came back. These guys have not play together yet. Jones played hard and I believe he fits with the team,” said Purves.
Jones confirmed Purves’ observation, saying that the team’s chemistry would get better as the conference goes on.
“Our bond and our chemistry will get stronger as we go on. I have to figure out what everybody can do and the strength of the team. I need to find my role in this team. I know they probably look for me to score at a certain situations. I still have to find a way to react to that,” said Jones.
