SAN Miguel leaned on an explosive performance by Arwind Santos and Marcio Lassiter to trounce Barako Bull, 103-89, on Sunday in the 40th Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the Araneta Coliseum.
The 6’4 Santos finished with 27 points including five triples, while Lassiter settled with 20 points as the Beermen wrapped their third straight win and tied Alaska Aces at the top of the standing with identical 3-0 slate. Both the Beermen and the Aces will break the tie when they collide on Wednesday.
”It’s good Marcio Lassiter exploded. I was really expecting it from him I think, we can beat any team provided we can always follow our game plan. I hope Dough Kramer and Rico Maierhofer can play with us on Wednesday. We need the two of them because Alaska has a lot of big men,” said San Miguel Beer coach Leo Austria.
Austria was referring to the knee injury of Maierhofer and sprained of Kramer after their practice the other day.
The Beermen’s win, which held the Energy Cola winless in three outings, at least was a big start for coach Austria since he assumed the head coaching chores only this season. Barako Bull is currently locked with newcomer Blackwater at the bottom of the standing with 0-3 record apiece.
