Defending champion San Miguel Beer relied on a strong start to pull off a 106-80 rout of Northern Luzon Expressway (NLEX) and grab the solo lead in the Philippine Basketball Association Season 42 Philippine Cup at the Xavier University gym in Cagayan De Oro City on Saturday.

The Beermen banked on the scoring prowess of three-time Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo, forward Arwind Santos and combo guard Alex Cabagnot to stretch their winning streak to three and improve their win-loss record to 4-1.

Cabagnot finished with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists, while the 6’10 Fajardo added 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting in the field on top of 12 rebounds and five blocks.
