Belgian Frederic Bertrand defeated Filipino Michael Catindig in the main event of the Duelo Y Mano: Arnis KickBoxing Pang-oran Tournament on Saturday at the Yaw Yan Kampilan gym in Pandacan, Manila. Pang-oran is a new martial sport integrating arnis weapons fighting and kickboxing.
Bertrand used offensive slashes and punches to overpower Catindig in two rounds.
“I just went on him and I didn’t give him a chance to kick. I have been playing offensive all the time because of his reach and kicks,” said Bertrand, a first timer in Filipino martial arts competition. Bertrand is a black belt in Japanese Kendo.
Meanwhile, Mark Tindugan pulled off a come-from-behind win against Malik Miranda. Miranda disarmed Tindugan during the first round while they posted equal points in the second round. Tindugan secured the victory in the third round via corner stoppage.
In the other matches John Carreon of Sandata Kamao subdued Rey Garcia of Golden Boys in the second round, Jay-Ar Cagulada of Golden Boys defeated Clark De Paz by way of disarm in the third round, Macky Boy De Paz of Modern Arnis Mano-Mano Filipino Martial Arts (MAMFMA) trounced Jonah Geronimo of Sandata Kamao, Dave Ochava of MAMFMA-Cavite beat Renante Gazo of RRK while Paul Debuyan outplayed Crizaldo Ardiente.
The tournament was organized by MAMFMA in cooperation with STIX arnis equipment and YawYan Kampilan.
