BRUSSELS: The alert level of the terrorist threat has been raised to the highest level in the Belgian capital of Brussels, Prime Minister Charles Michel confirmed in his official Twitter account on Saturday.
This is the first time in Belgium that the terrorist threat alert has been raised to level four for a region, the television channel RTBF reported, saying it means that the threat is “serious and imminent”.
It is a threat “requiring taking specific security measures as well as specific recommendations for the population,” according to the Coordinating Body for Threat Analysis (OCAM) of Belgium.
The OCAM proposed that people in the capital avoid places with a high concentration of people, facilitate and enforce security checks and do not broadcast rumors.
The OCAM of Belgium last Tuesday raised the terror alert level to level 3 for the entire country, following numerous arrests in Brussels as part of the investigation into the Paris attacks, which left more than 100 people killed and many others injured.
Level 3, a threat “possible and probable”, continues to apply to the rest of the country, it added. PNA/Xinhua
