• Belmonte eyes coalition with PDP-Laban

Outgoing Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. and other members of the Liberal Party at the House of Representatives are keen on a merger with PDP-Laban, the political party of incoming President Rodrigo Duterte.

Belmonte, vice chairman of the Liberal Party (LP), admitted that he has discussed the matter with Davao del Norte Rep. Pantaleon Alvarez, Duterte’s bet for Speaker.

The meeting between Belmonte and Alvarez transpired in Davao.

Belmonte said the decision to coalesce with PDP-Laban is not a party stand but a decision of LP members in the House.

The Speaker said LP will not ask Duterte to give any Cabinet position to Vice President-elect Leni Robredo.

“I haven’t recommended Leni Robredo for a post in Duterte administration,” Belmonte said. “I don’t think we or [the]LP should have anything to do with that.” Duterte had said that he has not considered any post for Robredo because he does not want to hurt the feelings of Sen. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

I do not think this is a good move for Speaker Belmonte, forming a coalition with the ruling party. What would happen to the Party he abandoned if Duterte have a heart attack and die on his first 3 months in office? The Vice-President will take over as the President, and Belmonte will go back to LP again? Having 4 lady friends will not give Duterte a longevity but rather, will shortened his life expectancy. However, he will die a happy man and Morticians will be having difficulties erasing that smile on his face.

The main reason why Duterte will not give Robredo a Cabinet Post is because the vice president will be opposing a lot of his proposed legislations, when she sits on cabinet meetings, such as Capital Punishment for crimes related to drugs, inhuman treatment of criminals, or maybe eliminating crowded jails by loading prisoners in a ship for proper disposition (no media coverage allowed on these type of activities).
The bottom line: Duterte does not want Robredo in his Cabinet meetings.

    3. duterte admin agreeing to the proposed coalition with the LP cohorts is like signing a fact with the devil. LP are desperately trying to maintain the hold to power even though being only a minor partner in the next administration. their plan is now in full swing and even going through the front door! what a show of naked opportunism by this dinosaur of politics.
