• Benguet eyes assistance to reformed drug suspects


    LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: In the wake of the national campaign to end the proliferation of illegal drugs in the country Benguet is exploring ways to provide livelihood assistance and opportunities to arrested users and pushers and those who voluntarily surrendered. Gov. Crescencio Pacalso said he has instructed the province’s Social Welfare and Development to source budgetary allocation for the purpose. They will also coordinate with the Department of Agriculture on the development of cacao plantations as their possible livelihood. Areas in Kibungan and Bakun towns where marijuana plantations are rampant may be converted into cacao and coffee for vast production that could be developed as their One-Town-One-Product. A total of 130 have yielded in the intensified crackdown on illegal drugs and more are expected to come out in the coming days.
