• Benguet eyes disaster management body

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: The Benguet provincial board is expected to enact an ordinance for the creation of a Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO) in this mineral-rich and vegetable-producing highland province.

The august body saw it fit that instead of just a resolution, an ordinance is more apt for the creation of a DRRMO with necessary funding under the Office of the Provincial Governor.

Especially during disaster operations, the creation of DRRMO is necessary as it upholds and promotes the strong commitment of the province in the formulation of policies and plans and the implementation of actions and measures pertaining to disaster preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery, the committee on finance and appropriations chaired by Board Member Concepcion Balao which was tasked to review the resolution, recommended.

Governor Nestor Fongwan had earlier requested the board to consider the creation of a DRRMO as provided for under the Philippine DRRM Act of 2010.
