LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: Pyrite stone craft may soon be an entrepreneurial endeavor of the Kabayan Barrio community here. Pyrite, locally known as tangkiyal, is also known as fool’s gold, Pyrite’s metallic luster and pale brass yellow hue resembles that of real gold. Benguet tourism officer Clarita Prudencio said residents were taught the art of packaging pyrite stone as novelty item under the National Commission on Culture and the Arts. The University of Minnesota, website said although pyrite is not significant, it is very widespread and common accessory mineral in many rock types and that fire was pyrite’s most prominent gift to human society. Sparks are created when pyrite is struck against metal or a hard surface, one of the earliest methods humans discovered in creating fire.
