Benguet miners to be tapped for rescue training

BAGUIO CITY: The Office of Civil Defense—Cordillera Administrative Region (OCD-CAR) will tap different mining companies in Benguet province for the upcoming trainings of responders of the local government units particularly on Collapsed Structure Search and Rescue. OCD-CAR Regional Director Andrew Alex Uy said miners from in Benguet are often tapped to help during disaster operations such as earthquakes and landslides not only in the region but around the country. Last year, a team from Philex Mining Corporation assisted in the search and recovery of bodies buried under the mud and wreckages during the earthquake in Bohol and typhoon Eastern Visayas. Just recently, 50 responders and uniformed men completed an eight-day training course aimed at boosting the city responders’ capabilities in emergency earthquake scenarios or other similar incidents.
