BAGUIO CITY: Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda recently visited the country’s summer capital to provide financial assistance to the survivors and families of the victims of a road accident in Buguias, Benguet on September 9.
The Office of the President gave P108,000 each to the three survivors and the families of the 13 who died when their vehicle fell into a ravine along Sitio Bangbangayen in Poblacion.
Roxas and Lacierda checked on the two students still confined at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center and proceeded to the Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Training Center to meet with the families of the 13 who perished in the accident.
Roxas said he was instructed by President Benigno Aquino 3rd, who was on official trip abroad during the time of their visit, to visit the survivors and families of the victims.
In a message read by Roxas, Aquino expressed his wholehearted sympathy to the family of those who were injured and died in the accident, as he also thanked those who extended help and assistance.
The President also assured that the government through the various agencies and offices will continue to provide support and for the Philippine National Police to thoroughly conduct an investigation on the tragic accident.
