• Benguet town bats for health care


    LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: Officials of the municipality of Tuba, Benguet are seeking the endorsement of a proposal to build health drug, records and laboratory management of its rural health unit (RHU) from funds granted to communities which host power generation facilities.

    Councilor Adora Paus through Resolution 52 series 2013 that she authored is requesting Hydroelectric Development Corp. (Hedcor), which operates a hydropower generating facility in Irisan village in Tuba to endorse the project proposal of the town for the improvement of the local health drug, records and laboratory management of the RHU to be accessed under the funds as per Energy Regulation 1 – 94.

    Per Republic Act (RA) 9136 (or Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001), the generation company and/or energy resource developer will review the work programs or project proposals on development, livelihood, reforestation, watershed management, health and environment enhancement duly endorsed by the host local government through a resolution passed by its council.

    Municipal Health Officer Dr. Lorigrace Austria indicated in the proposal the need for funds amounting to P96,000 for efficient and effective records and drug management and accessibility of services especially for Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or 4Ps who are also Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) recipients.

    She cited that, the growing number of patients who go for consultation at the Municipal Health Services Office with an average of 141 patients per day where records management need to be addressed.

    This is coupled with the government program under the 4Ps where medicines to be availed need to be managed. Also the need for equipment for lipid profile determination for 4Ps recipients to undergo as required by the PhilHealth.

    The resolution seeking Hedcor for the endorsement of the proposal is now with the provincial board referred to the committee on health and sanitation.
