Benguet town bats for hiring of locals


LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: Business establishments, contractors, developers, investors and similar entities in Sablan town in Benguet will soon be required to employ and give priority to residents in the area.

Vice Mayor Leonardo Lawana authored an ordinance that requires employment of the town’s residents in anticipation of the expanding business activities in the area brought about by the rapidly flourishing businesses.

The measure mandates all business establishments, contractors, developers, investors and
similar entities to prioritize bonafide and qualified residents of the town in the employment of their manpower requirements.

It is intended to minimize unemployment, uplift standards of living of residents, provide equal access of employment, and promote and provide full employment opportunities.

One of the provisions of the ordinance is that establishments are required to employ if possible, all of their manpower requirements or at least a minimum of 80 percent from the unemployed bonafide and qualified residents in the town of Sablan.
