LA TRINIDAD, Benguet: The Benguet Provincial Police Office recommended the establishment of a Traffic Management Office (TMO) to oversee the engineering, enforcement and education areas of traffic management to prevent vehicular accidents. Deputy Police Director for Operations, Supt. Peter Tagtag Jr., said accidents recorded in the province this year involved 108 private vehicles, 103 of which occurred between private to private vehicles and 56 involved public to private vehicles. Also 49 cases were motorcycles in collision with private cars, while 17 against public vehicles. Accidents that occurred mostly along major roads totaled 336, attributed to human error owing to the skill and discipline of the driver, according to Tagtag. Of these, 213 were recorded in Baguio, 66 in Tuba, 20 in Itogon, 16 in Buguias, and 21 in Atok. Tagtag admitted the PPO is having difficulty managing traffic because the interventions are not aligned with the agencies. He also stressed the need to install more directional traffic signages as some of these were vandalized or stolen.
